Belgium's R&S Records (R&S being the initials of Renaat Vandepapelier and Sabine Maes who started the label in 1984) has released some of the cornerstones of modern day electronica: iconic records as such as Aphex Twin's 'Digeridoo', Ken Ishii's 'Jelly Tones', and Model 500's 'Deep Space' to name but a few. Running multiple subsidiary labels like Apollo (ambient), Global Cuts (house), Diatomyc (acid), Satori Records, and Generations during its heyday, operations were suspended in 2001 amidst a difficult climate for independent labels. R&S was however relaunched in 2006 with a reinvigorated focus on establishing itself in the contemporary electronic music scene and has done very well for itself with recent releases by Radio Slave and Orlando Voorn and re-releases of its classic catalogue.

Essential.
