Sven Väth's career began in the early 80s at the Dorian Gray club and at The Vogue in his hometown Frankfurt, playing soul oldies and hi-NRG disco in freaky costumes, already showing a noticeable drive to perform whilst behind the decks. In 1986, while still DJing at The Vouge and making a name for himself across Europe for his parties on Ibiza, Väth teams up with Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti (who later became known as Snap) for his first production project under the name Off. The group's second single 'Electrica Salsa' went to became a breakthrough success, topping the charts in several European countries and making Väth a pop star over night. With the money made from 'Electrica Salsa' Münnzig, Annzilotti and Väth take over the Vouge in 1988 and reopen it under the name Omen. 1990 is the year techno arrives in Germany, and Väth is quick to embrace the new style. He starts two labels, Harthouse and Eye Q, both of which become leading labels within a booming German techno and trance scene, with famous releases by Hardfloor, the first productions of Alter Ego and of course Väth's own music, produced together with long-standing partner Ralf Hildenbeutel, that significantly contributes to the crossing-over of techno and mainstream pop. By 1997, with Väth by now established as one of the world's most recognized DJs, his label empire runs into financial difficulties and, with the closure of the Omen club a year later, Väth decides to entirely devote himself to a mobile party concept under a new name - Cocoon. The Cocoon brand marks the new era for Sven Väth, soon spawning a booking agency, one of the world's most extravagant clubs located in his hometown Frankfurt and one of the most prosperous techno labels, all running under the same name.
