New York's premier label for disco-influenced house music, Environ was established in 1995 by Morgan Geist out of his Oberlin college in Ohio primarily as an outlet for his own music. Troubles with their third release - a co-production of Geist and Titonton Duvante - forced the label into hiatus in 1997, but Geist struck back with a vengeance the next year, releasing four EPs and signing disco producer Daniel Wang - already famous for his excelent Balihu label - as the labels first artist. Environ began to develop its own language of funk-infused neo-disco house and when Geist started the Metro Area project together with Darshan Jesrani, the world was more than prepared to listen: The projects numbered singles - seven to this day - contained some of the most played tunes of the new millennium and firmly established Environ in the top league of electronic music labels.

If you are based on the planet's northern hemisphere like we are, chances are you're either looking for a melancholic soundtrack to the greyness outside or some cheerful music to counter its adverse effects right now.
Either way, this month's releases more...
Morgan Geist certainly hasn't lost his disco touch, famous since his successful Metro Area pdays. Teaming up with vocalist Damon C. Scott as Storm Queen this time, 'It Goes On' is a perfect piano house pop piece in the vein of Hercules & Love Affair with a DJ-friendly dub on the flip. Nice one.
