Anniversary Compilation + Special Album Prices

The Double-Album Fünf
was reviewed:
Ostgut Ton celebrates an extraordinary first five years with a fittingly unique release. The entire family of Berghain and Panorama Bar residents and regulars have been invited to create a track for 'Fünf', the massive compilation package marking the label's anniversary.Intended to be more than a randomly assembled collection of tracks, 'Fünf' presented the invited producers with a unique concept - and a challenge: Each of the participating artists received a 4GB sample library of sounds recorded in the Berghain club itself to incorporate into their productions as they saw fit.
These field recordings, created by Ninja Tune artist and professional sound designer Emika, included sounds like the clicking of strobe lights or the sub-bass hum of the club's refrigerators and run like a common thread through the album's diverse range of tracks.
Emika herself provides the programmatic ambient piece 'Cooling Room' as an introductoin, and while Ostgut's more industrial sounding artists like Marcel Dettmann and Luke Slater naturally had it easier to work with the given samples, its even more interesting to witness how producers like Soundstream and Nick Höppner imaginatively handle their source material.
Totalling 26 tracks and offering plenty of striking highlights to appreciate, 'Fünf' is certainly one of 2010's defining releases and a must for all fans of cutting-edge techno and house.
