For well over a decade Zimbabwe-born and Toronto-based Jason Amm has been spending his time obsessively grappling with an outsized collection of vintage analogue synthesizers, samplers, and sequencers. His peculiar brand of melodramatic electro-synth-pop labels has appeared on well-respected labels like Ann Arbor's Ghostly International imprint and Berlin's Morr Music. Solvent's music is not easy to classify - too song-oriented for electro, too 80s for IDM, and too experimental for synth-pop, it sits comfortably between these poles, its moods ranging from sinister to melancholic to playful, but always with an unerring sense for fat sounds and catchy melodies.
