If you talk about the new breed of Frankfurt, Germany based artists it can't be done without mentioning Sascha Dive. With the foundation of his own imprint Deep Vibes Recordings in 2006 and numerous releases of deepest house on labels like Oslo and Cécille he quickly found himself on the olymp of contemporary dance music producers while DJ'ing all the relevant clubs across Europe. Production-wise, Dive is nothing if not straightforward: track titles veer towards the descriptive: 'Deep in Rhythm', 'DEep', 'Deepest America' and the music is similarly functional.

For the past couple of years Sascha Dive has been carefully negotiating between the house music underground and Ibiza club floors, between the sound's raw and authentic US roots and the polished production style of his peers.

Few people have managed to pull this off as convincingly as Sascha Dive, whose music feels as little out of place on strictly underground labels such as Workshop as it does big-shot imprints as Cocoon. Dive's home base is of course his own Deep Vibes label, which has racked up an impressive catalogue of well over a dozen releases in only three years.

Given Sascha Dive's productivity it is almost a surprise that we haven't been treated to a proper full-length album any time sooner, but 'Restless Nights' certainly makes up for this with its 10 deep and moody house cuts. Deep percussive grooves and spoken word narratives run through the album as a common thread, with the energetic 'The Jam' and the tribal jazz of 'African Monster' standing out as polar opposites on the intensity scale.

'Restless Nights' is an impressive effort for its versatility and sophistication, and our favourite, the reduced dub house track 'Drums Of The Jungle', is just the icing on the cake of what is a finely nuanced house music album.
