Part of Detroit techno's second wave of artists in the early 90s, Richie Hawtin is a universally acclaimed DJ and producer, the founder of Plus 8 with John Acquaviva and Minus, as well as the man behind Plastikman. Plastikman is Hawtin's outlet for his more abstract and minimal electronic works and came to be in 1993 with the 'Krakpot' and 'Spastik' singles. What and why is Plastikman? In Hawtin's own words: 'The whole idea came of some seriously heavy parties in Detroit. We did this one thing called Mayday which was held in the basement of a friend's house for like 40 people. We were seriously freaking out for ten hours. It stopped about nine in the morning when some woman next door came round in her curlers and dressing gown to complain about the music and that was the end of it. The whole vibe from those, erm, experiences, is pretty much what Plastikman is about.' After almost 17 years and numerous singles, EPs and albums, Plastikman is gearing up for a new album to come out sometime in 2010 and he's asking you, his listeners, to help him make it. Citing the endless possible directions that Plastikman can go in musically, Hawtin wants his fans to fill out a questionnaire on his official website to give him an idea of what new sonic terrains he should explore. Keep a lookout for the record in the new year to see what Plastikman and the fans come up with.

Having recently relaunched his Plastikman project worldwide on the 2010 festival circuit, Richie Hawtin slyly unleashes 'Slinky' ahead of the much anticipated 'Arkives' box set. An unsupposing acid techno groove around which Plastikman's mad genius locks you into a bewildering rhythmical vortex. Absolutely killer return.
