Named after the Finnish word for electricity, Sähko is without a doubt one of the most significant labels of the 1990s, having pioneered the sound of minimalistic reduction with ground-breaking acts like Ø, Pan(a)sonic, and Mike Ink. Founded by Tommi Grönlund with the help of Pan Sonic's Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen, the label has managed to put forth a unique vision of electronic music, based on sparse rhythmic repetition and analogue sine waves. This has however not stopped Sähko from occasional excursions into different fields with jazz releases by Jimi Tenor, electro experiments by Freestyle Man, or acoustic recordings by nsi..
