It is not only his impressive jewellery, which gives Osunlade the air of a Voodoo high-priest - even more so do his abundant musical skills suggest that he might be in league with the unnatural. Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Osulade discovered the piano at age seven, formed his first band at age 12 and taught himself to play drums, bass and guitar. During a visit to Hollywood at age 17, he was offered to lend a hand to the creation of film and TV scores and his professional career in music began. Disappointed by the limitations imposed on him by the major label industry, Osunlade eventually founded his own label - Yoruba Records - in 1999, which became a resounding success by combining the sounds of jazz, Latin and house into a style entirely unique to the label. In 2001 Osunlade recorded his first album for London's renowned Soul Jazz label, which became one of the most important house albums of the early millennium, further raising his profile. Besides Yoruba, Osunlade records for labels like BBE, Strictly Rhythm and R2.
