i pulled this album out of the 'downtempo' section at Gramophone records in Chicago, thinking this was the most unusual and unexpected record cover ever for an album by the Icelandic band 'mum'. I put it on the record player in the shop to check it out, and it also sounded like the most unusual left-turn for said Icelandic ephemeral-istas.

i pulled this album out of the 'downtempo' section at Gramophone records in Chicago, thinking this was the most unusual and unexpected record cover ever for an album by the Icelandic band 'mum'. I put it on the record player in the shop to check it out, and it also sounded like the most unusual left-turn for said Icelandic ephemeral-istas.
I later found out this is, in fact, not the same band, but was delighted by my purchase anyway. It reminds me of some of my favorite moments in late-90's acid jazz (particularly reminiscent of Ninja Tunes artists like Flanger and Amon Tobin). Its quite organic sounding, as though performed by a live group, though clearly manipulated with cuts, loops, samples and the like.
