Starting his career as a drummer in influential German new wave band Palais Schaumburg (alongside Thomas Fehlmann among others), Moritz von Oswald first became known to a wider public through the Basic Channel project, which he initiated during the early 90s with long-time partner and owner of Berlin's famous Hardwax record store, Mark Ernestus. In rapid succession the two released a hugely influential series of 12" recordings, combining techno and dub elements. Von Oswald and Ernestus continued their dub explorations as Rhythm & Sound, working with original dub reggae artists like Cornell Campbell, The Chosen Brothers, and Sugar Minott. Lately von Oswald has embarked on numerous projects touchin the fields of classical music and improvisational jazz: The 'ReComposed' project together with Carl Craig and most recently the Moritz von Oswald Trio together with Max Loderbauer (nsi., Sun Electric) and Sasu Ripatti (Luomo, Vladislav Delay).
