Michael Mayer was born in the Black Forest in the west of Germany. As a young boy he already started his passion for the DJ's craft and collecting records from Italian disco, the Pet Shop Boys to extended 12" mixes of pop tracks and classic funk. At the age of 20 Michael moved to Cologne. With the help of the brothers Wolfgang and Reinhardt Voigt - already established Cologne artists - he forged a characteristically grounded career. Michael's time is split between producing tracks, DJing globally and overseeing the distribution of many of Europe's underground labels through starting 'Kompakt' together with Wolfgang Voigt and Jürgen Paape, a deceptively named business incorporating a vibrant release schedule, recording studios, distribution centres and a gigantic record store, all in the heart of Cologne. Every Friday Michael eats with best pals and fellow Kompakt artists Tobias Thomas and Aksel Superpitcher, before partying at Total Confusion, their Studio 672 clubnight. At the origin of the scene he soakes up all the music and artists around him. In his productions and DJ sets he combines his love for pop songs/structures with house and techno rhythms always being on the creative front line.
