Founded in 1991 by John Acquaviva and Richie Hawtin in Windsor, Canada, Plus 8 Records quickly became one of the most influential North-American techno imprints with a string of landmark releases. Speedy J, Kenny Larkin contributed early techno classics to Plus 8, as did Hawtin and Acquaviva under guises such as F.U.S.E., Cybersonik, or Final Exposure. In 1998 Hawtin founded his new label Minus, followed by a time of reduced output on Plus 8, but with a new roster of artists like Mike Shannon, Paco Osuna, and Marco Carola, the legendary label has once again developed a strong, independent profile over the past few years.

Matthew Hawtin Mixes Ambient Classics for Plus 8

Autechre, Scuba, Cobblestone Jazz
There is only one word we can find for March 2010 and that is: massive. We're hard pressed to recall another month with such a staggering amount of great releases, resulting in what is surely our most comprehensive newsletter to date. The tip of the iceberg is more...
'Once Again, Again' is Matthew's first full-fledged musical project for his brother's Plus 8 label, which itself has a long history of releasing ambient music.
Reminiscent of the times when every self-respecting club had a dedicated chill-out area, where Mixmaster Morris played the newest tunes from label like R&S, Apollo or Rising High to exhausted ravers, 'Once Again, Again' selects some of the finest tracks of the era.
Quite a few actually, since in addition to 22 single tracks the compilation includes two separate mixes, the 'Extended Version' of which is a whopping 3:20hrs long.
The mixes have been recorded entirely from the original vinyl with additional mastering and post-production by Tim Xavier, so no crackles and pops should distract from the spaced-out listening pleasure.
