One of the most influential labels in the history of electronic music, Underground Resistance, or UR for short, pioneered the concept of faceless sonic activism with a strong political message against oppression and cultural commercialisation. Initial productions came from Mike 'Mad Mike' Banks and Jeff Mills, soon joined by Robert Hood to complete UR's classic line-up. Additional releases were contributed by legendary Detroit artists such as Blake Baxter, Scan-7, Suburban Knight, and, perhaps most notably, Drexciya, a group long shrouded in mystery, whose brilliant experimental electro productions paved the way for a worldwide resurgence of the genre. When Mills and Hood left UR in 1992, Banks continued group and label by himself, taking the UR sound towards a more electro and funk-oriented direction, while maintaining its radical political stance. A new generation of artists joined the ranks of Underground Resistance, including Santiago Salazar and Rolando (a.k.a. Aztek Mystic), the latter receiving credit for UR's most successful release, 'Knights Of The Jaguar' from 1999.
