Jon Convex Jon Convex Jon Convex Music Producer (MP3 Downloads) Artist Convex Industries
Until only a short while ago Damon Kirkham has been best known as one half of influential drum'n bass duo Instra:mental, a group he founded together with Al Green aka Boddika in 2000. At the same time as Instra:mental have started to shed their d'n'b roots, focusing on more experimental electro and dubstep sounds with their productions and releases on their own Nonplus imprint, Kirkham has increasingly stepped to the fore as a prolific solo producer under the name Jon Convex, most recently founding his own imprint, Convex Industries.

Instra:mental's Jon Convex appears once more on Martyn's 3024 imprint, this time joined by old friend dBridge. 'Lied To Be Loved' contrasts dBridge's sensual vocal with a beastly electroid bassline, 'Zero' a funkin' electro-house bounce and 'Stay' soupy house-stabs with darker Detroit/UK undertones.

Welcome to 2012 and our first update of the year! 'The problem starts with the word electro,' goes a quote by Detroit's DJ Stingray, and indeed the e-word has been applied to pretty much any other genre beside the cold, synthetic funk of Kraftwerk, Model 500 more...

Instra:mental's Jon Convex has been buzzing since his recent solo debut on 3024. For 'Pop That P' on Naked Lunch, Convex fuses diving and scouring synths and an upfront juke-inspired vocal loop over a locked 4/4. The flip plunges further with a Drexciya-styled, foreboding groove.

After a flurry of releases this year from Boddika, the other half of Instra:mental, Jon Convex, makes his own compelling solo debut on 3024. Adding considerable grit to the high-end production we come to expect from the duo, Convex impresses with 'Falling Again' standing out with its infectious vocal and bassline.
