As one of the most versatile producers in French electronic music, Nicolas Chaix truly lives up to his home label's name. Recording solo as I:Cube and together with Versatile Records label owner Gilb'R as Château Flight, Chaix has been responsible for some of the most memorable dance music productions of the past decade. I:Cube's music fuses influences of Detroit and Chicago house and techno with distinctly French sampling and filtering techniques and well dosed jazz influences. His first 12" 'Disco Cubizm' (containing a remix by a group called Daft Punk) appeared on Versatile in 1996, and since then Nicolas Chaix has released four acclaimed albums and a wealth of singles and EPs under his I:Cube name, including such memorable ones as his collaboration with Wu-Tang chief RZA, 'Can You Deal With That?' and the wonderful deep house tracks of 'Les Archives Cubiste'.
The Album "M" Megamix
was reviewed:
Nicolas Chaix is a veteran of the album format (as I:Cube and with Chateau Flight) and perhaps this is what has prompted him to change up the routine for his latest long player: His '"M" Megamix' glues together 25 of his crunchy, electroid techno-house productions, most of them excellent. Check!
