Horsepower Productions are commonly credited for inventing the dubstep genre, and there's certainly a some truth to it: the group's seminal 2003 album 'In Fine Style' presented a stripped down version of UK garage, added influences from reggae, dub, and introduced the genre's trademark subbass wobble. Initially a trio helmed by Benny Ill, Horsepower Productions have recently revived their original line-up, included original members Lev Jnr, and Nasis plus newcomer Jay King, for their third album, 'Quest For The Sonic Bounty'.

The Album Quest For The Sonic Bounty was reviewed:
Key pioneers of dubstep, London group Horsepower Productions fronted by Benny Ill return to Tempa with their first album in six years. Finely sculpted bass textures and mystery-laden samples, deep, brooding and atmospheric, setting the benchmark for dubstep high again indeed. Outstanding.
