Born in Augsburg, Germany in 1975, Florian Hecker began composing experimental electronic music with computers in 1996. Hecker's work seeks to establish and highlight the connection that computer hardware and software has had on music composition and sound design, and though the tonality and structure of his Hecker's music is initially abstract in nature, there does come, with repeated listens, the sensation that a hidden and coherent language lies in wait of discovery. Often working with software engineers and scientists, Florian's most recent productions incorporate psycho-acoustic effects that purposefully disorient the listener's spatial perception in both live presentations and studio works. His album 'Sun Pandämonium,' received the Award of Distinction at the Prix Ars Electronica 2003. Hecker has frequently collaborated with other artists such as Oswald Berthold, Russell Haswell and Yasunao Tone. Together with Russell Haswell he is currently working on a project with material recorded in early 2004 during their research with the UPIC system at the Centre for Composition of Music Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX) in Paris.
