Founded by DJ Hell in 1996 as an affiliate to Disko B, International Deejay Gigolo Records immediately grabbed the public's attention though its witty branding (by Vienna's Andy Orel) and Hell's excellent A&R policy: The label's initial batch of releases saw established artists like Jeff Mills, Christopher Just, Anthony Shakir or the DMX Krew lined up side-by-side with then little known acts like DJ Naughty, David Carretta, Miss Kittin or Terrence Fixmer - to all of whom their early involvement in Gigolo was able to provide sustained careers. With the electro-clash hype getting into full swing by the end of the 90s, the Gigolo sound fell on open ears worldwide and the label released many of the defining hits of this era: Miss Kittin & The Hacker's 'Frank Sinatra', Zombie Nation's 'Kernkraft 400', Fisherspooner's 'Emerge', Vitalic's 'Poney EP' or Tiga & Zyntherius' 'Sunglasses At Night'. Never losing touch with his roots however, Hell continues to ensure to this day that the true underground spirit always had a place on Gigolo, be it the legendary Detroit electro of Dopplereffekt, the suicidal synth-pop of cross-dressing cult leader Chris Korda or the Chicago acid orgies of DJ Traxx and his Dirty Criminals. While Gigolo Records was based in Munich up until the year 2000, it is now operating out of Berlin.
