Launched in 2001 by Tim Goldsworthy, James Murphy and Jonathan Galkin, DFA has developed into one the most influential indie labels of the decade and the nucleus of New York's disco-dance-punk scene. Originally intended to be called Death From Above, the name was abbreviated in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Early successes for the label came from groups The Rapture and The Juan MacLean, although it was James Murphy's own debut album as LCD Soundsystem that made DFA Records a household name. With a distribution deal with EMI in place the label has been steadily growing since, releasing music by acts like Holy Ghost!, Gavin Russom's Black Meteoric Star project, and most recently Athens, Georgia based punk/wave band Pylon.

After years of helping other people perfecting their craft as DFA's in-house engineer, Gunnar Bjerk releases his debut single on the label. 'Back Then' is an easy-going and light-hearted pop tune, while 'Stay' underpins its disco pop with a more upfront beat. Slightly over the top, but a fun single nevertheless.
