Curtis Alan Jones, known to the world as Cajmere and Green Velvet, started out in the early 90s recording for the long-defunct Clubhouse label, his productions oscillating between deep house and the jacking, minimal Chitech style he was to become famous for. In 1992 he founded his first label, Cajual, the first single of which, 'Brighter Days', became a 90s house music anthem. Cajual went on to feature many of Chicago's most talented second generation house music producers, such as DJ Sneak, Johnny Fiasco or Glenn Underground. In 1993 Jones started a second label to focus on the harder and more techno oriented Chicago jacks sound: Relief. 'Velvet Tracks', the first release on Relief marked the birth of Jones' new alias, Green Velvet, and again became a huge hit with the hard jacking 'Conniption' on side A and 'Preacher Man' on the flip. While Relief quickly became the leading label for the resurgence of underground Chicago house, Green Velvet managed to cross over into the club culture mainstream with a string of hits, from 1996' 'Flash' to 2001's 'La La Land'.
