Although a native New Yorker, Frankie Knuckles' name is inseparably connected with the creation of house music in Chicago, where he was a resident DJ at the seminal Warehouse club between 1977 and 1982. Tutored by Chip E, Knuckles began producing around 1985, striking up a creative partnership with
Jamie Principle, whose compositions like '
Your Love' and '
Baby Wants To Ride' Knuckles turned into bona fide house music classics. In contrast to some of his contemporaries, Frankie Knuckles pursued a highly successful career after the golden Warehouse days were over. Knuckles moved back to New York, partnering with
David Morales and remixing AAA artists like the Pet Shop Boys, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson. In 1998 Knuckles won the Grammy Award for 'Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical'.
