A pioneer in the fields of abstract 'clicks & cuts', Frank Bretschneider is well known for his recordings as Komet for labels like Mille Plateaux, 12K, and Raster-Noton, the influential imprint he co-founded in 1999 together with Alva Noto and Olaf Bender. Born and raised in East Germany, Bretschneider spent his childhood in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), studying graphic design and painting, before conducting first electronic music experiments in 1984. His strong interest in the interaction between graphic and music led to the formation of the Rastermusik label in 1996 together with Olaf Bender, which was eventually joined with Carsten Nicolai's Noton imprint to from Raster-Noton. Bretschneider lives as a freelance musician and composer in Berlin.

Frank Bretschneider's project exploring the unique East German electronic instrument the Subharchord dates back to 2007, this is the first release edited from a live performance. More 'technique' than 'techno', his creation of minutely detailed filter fluctuations, rhythmical pulses and eerie resonances are a pure joy.
