Great nephew of Alice Coltrane, Flying Lotus started out recording for seminal LA label Plug Research, where his debut '1983' appeared in 2006. Recording abstract electronic hip hop in the style of Madlib, Jay Dilla or Plug Research labelmates Headset and AmmonContact, Flying Lotus recently signed to Warp Records, releasing his 2008 album 'Los Angeles' to universal acclaim.

Flying Lotus drops one of the most anticipated albums of the year with 'Cosmogramma', the follow-up to his hugely influential 'Los Angeles' from 2008. Over the course of its 17 tracks FlyLo's third album unfolds like a kaleidoscopic trip through a cosmic wonderland of jazz, hip-hop, computer game sounds and electronica.
Leaving the reference frame of instrumental hip-hop far behind, 'Cosmogramma' construct its own free-floating microcosm from these elements and emerges as FlyLo's most artistically coherent album to date, detached from all conventions of space, time and genre.
It's hard not to marvel at the album's impeccable flow, from the opening track 'Clock Catcher', which contrasts 8-bit chip sounds with Rebekah Raff's acoustic harp playing, to the uplifting finale of 'Galaxy In Janaki' with its haunting chords and freestyle bass.
Memorable moments include '... And The World Laughs With You', which elegantly dissolves Thom Yorke's vocals into a mesmerizing track, or the orchestral 'Drips//Auntie's Harp'. It is however the way these elements are arranged into a whole which makes 'Cosmogramma' what it is: A landmark album of one of electronic music's most accomplished artists.
