From the early days as guitarist/singer in Viennese post-rock band Maische up to his current status as Austria's most renowned composer in the field of abstract electronica, certain recurring themes can be found in the work of Christian Fennesz: An interest in densely layered soundscapes, subtle shifts in harmonics and a sense of melancholy more commonly found in pop than in modern experimental music. Much of this can be explained by his often publicised reverence of Brian Wilson's Beach Boys sound, with 'Pet Sounds' often being being quoted as Fennesz' all-time favourite album, a song of which - 'Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulders)' - he has reinterpreted for his phenomenal 'Fennesz Plays' single.
