Amsterdam-born Estroe (also known as Esther Roozendaal) belongs to a handful of female DJs that have in equal measure gained recognition as a DJ as well as a serious musician. She started producing somewhere in 2003, when harder forms of techno were still ruling the dancefloors. As an unconscious response Estroe based her first singles on the early days of Detroit techno, when artists Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin and the British group The Black Dog cradled their synthesizers instead of beating them up. In Estroe's work, building atmospheres is most important, with strings and dubby elements being the most dominant aspects in her tracks. Besides her DJ work and producing for labels such as Connaisseur Superieur or Dualblock, Estroe has launched the net label EevoNext which she manages together with Stefan 'Terrace' Robbers and Klaas-Jan 'The Moderator' Jongsma.

Spain vs. The Netherlands
We just couldn't resist. At a time when all of Europe seems transfixed on a small leather ball, the temptation was just to great to pit the two World Cup finalists against each other on a musical playing field. This week we have selected 11 current more...

Building atmospheres and dubby elements played a key role on the debut album, 'Elemental Assets', by Amsterdam's Estroe. Again on Connaisseur, its now down to artists such as Steve Rachmad, Audiofly, Roberto Rodriguez, Ripperton and Joel Mull to contribute to this huge remix package.
