Ekkohaus, or Kostas Tassopoulos if you prefer to call him by his real name, professes his techno and house productions as 'Music from the other side of the fence.' Listening to his tracks, many of which are infused with quirky vocal samples, makes one quickly realize that this is not a boastful claim designed to pique your interest as a listener, but rather an honest statement of intent. Born and raised in Greece, Ekkohaus received his first lessons in music on the piano and later went on to win a scholarship to an orchestra percussion course in the early nineties. This introduction to classical music/percussion prompted another meeting, this time with a Roland drum machine and a cheap synth. This combination led Tassopoulos to begin his own productions. Since 2002 he's also been spinning records as a resident DJ at Hobo and Babulu in Greece. His live sets are a pleasant mix of house, dubby bass and minimal structures all built upon solid percussion. His latest release '
Brian Said' is lush collection of house tracks and '
Old Friends' nicely highlights Ekkohaus' ability at creating top notch chill out songs.
