'Counterchange' is the long due debut album of Berlin-based Englishman Ed Davenport. Drawing heavily from classic Detroit house and techno Davenport however maintains the contemporary edge of his much played-out singles, exploring a variety of rhythmic templates through the course of the album. Impressive.

If you are based on the planet's northern hemisphere like we are, chances are you're either looking for a melancholic soundtrack to the greyness outside or some cheerful music to counter its adverse effects right now.
Either way, this month's releases more...
On his previous NRK releases Ed Davenport managed to brilliantly combine elements of dub techno with a distinct classic house flavour. His 'New Yorkshire EP' continues this direction, with Fred P and NRK's own Nick Harris contributing deeper takes and his own 'Club Dub' going fully down the techno route.

A further collaboration between Davenport and Deutschmann 'Trump' sees wistful synth washes under a bouncing icey motif. Jerome Sydenham adds an immersive cavernous bass and Brendon Moeller's fluidly agile refix engages thoroughly. A biting acid remix rounds things off nicely. Recommended!

Vidab's Davenport & Deutschmann contribute their 'The Kristian Slayter' EP to Polytone, with 'Breakin Free' being a nicely grooving techno track, characterized by perpetually morphing vocals and steadily pushing chords. Remixes come from Mathias Vogt and Roberto Bosco, the latter providing a real peak-time bomb.

This time around our 'House Music Special' might well be called a 'Krauthouse Special'. Germany's house music producers and labels have seemingly overtaken their US-based colleagues, at least regarding productivity and sheer quantity of output.
If this is more...
UK-born and Berlin-based, Ed Davenport combines the best of British and German house sounds: Dense chords and wild-pitch moods make 'Curtain Call' and 'Overdub In Am' two sure-fire hits for the dance-floor. Overdoing it a little on the break-downs perhaps, but otherwise impeccable tracks!
