James Young, Aiden Whalley, and vocalist James Buttery are Darkstar, the London-based production unit whose track 'Aidy's Girl Is A Computer' attracted a huge amount of attention in 2009 with its fusion of synth-pop and dubstep elements. Signed to pioneering dubstep label Hyperdub label, Darkstar are not unlike fellow shooting stars Mount Kimbie in their rather loose application of dance music structures to their music. If anything, Darkstar's sound can be labled 'post-dubstep' for its use of vocal samples and contemporary production techniques, but at its very heart lies the quest for impeccably composed, melancholic pop songs.

Having made the transition from Hyperdub to Warp, Darkstar return with a new single. 'Timeaway' is a psychedelic pop gem that pairs the simple melody of a sloppily wound up musical clock with psychedelic vocals, bells and a clapping folk beat, making us curious for the album coming sometime next year.
