Originally conceived and produced by English dance music duo Coldcut and released by Ninja Tune, the DJ Food project came to fruition in 1990 and was developed as a means to 'feed' DJs inspiration in the form of usable samples. DJ Food's first release, the Jazz Brakes series, consisted of a collection of breaks, loops and samples, perfect for mixing, remixing and producing the hallmark Ninja Tune synthesis of jazz and hip hop. Volumes 4 and 5, co-created with DJs/producers Patrick Carpenter (PC) and Kevin Foakes (Strictly Kev), saw the series veering away from sample based work to more fully realized artist albums. In 2009 the DJ Food series, now with Strictly Kev as the only remaining contributor, returns with 'One Man's Weird Is Another Man's World', which will be followed by two more EPs and a full-length album in 2010.
