From humble beginnings in the London basement of Daddy Kool's reggae shop on Berwick Street, Mr Bongo has come a long way: Its record stores in the UK and Japan are seen as the standard bearer for Latin music outside the Americas, while expanding into musical territories such as hip hop, (re-releasing the classic Wild Style soundtrack), soul (recording legendary Terry Callier), and African music. Main focus however remain music from Brazil, Latin and South America. Mr Bongo has also set up a film division, the first project of which has been the successful re-release of Mikhail Kalatozov's 60s documentary 'Soy Cuba'.
