Barker & Baumecker is the collaboration of two long-standing Berghain/Panoramabar residents: nd_baumecker, who has been a DJ and manager at Berlin's most famous nightclub for years, and Sam 'Voltek' Barker, who runs Berghain's Leisure System night, the regular away game for the UK's electronica and techno elite. The duo's debut EP, 'Candyflip', combines both influences: Baumecker's preference for chord-driven techno and Barker's penchant for broken beats.

Leading up to an entire album by the two scheduled to appear later this year, Barker & Baumecker's 'A Murder Of Crows' is a faultless introduction to their production style. 'Pt. 1' is a remorseless techno banger, its subtle beginnings turning into a full-scale percussive onslaught, whereas 'Pt. 2' shows off their funkier, bouncier side. Perfect.

Another fantastic year for the Ostgut Ton label, and incidentally its fifth, a fact celebrated with a spectacular label compilation. The collaboration debut of Berghain residents Barker & Baumecker, 'Candyflip', was one of the label's many highlights in 2010, a track defined by its complex interplay of chord and kick drum patterns.
