Composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and oft-proclaimed 'sound-alchemist' Raz Mesinai has been producing and performing music on the intersection of dub and modern composition since the mid-90s. Born in Jerusalem and now settled in New York, his work fuses the two worlds of traditional Middle Eastern music and New York dub and hip-hop. Meeting much critical acclaim with his Badawi moniker and remixing artists such as Kode 9, Shackleton, DJ Spooky and Headhunter, he is also active in the improvisational scene in the New York underground collaborating with the likes of John Zorn, Elliott Sharp and Mark Dresser. Alongside all this, he has had his works performed at prestigious festivals and had his music featured in films by Ridley Scott, Jonathan Demme and Darren Aronofsky.
