Aux 88 started out as childhood friends Tommy "Tom Tom" Hamilton and Keith "DJ K-1" Tucker playing cover versions of Juan Atkins' electro hits from the 1980s under the name Regime. The two later changes changed the name to RX-7 and finally to Aux 88 in 1994. Tucker had already released his first 12" under the name Frequency in 1990 on Juan Atkins' legendary Metroplex label, but it was Aux 88's 1994 debut album "Bass Magnetic" that put the two Detroit producers into the international spotlight. The album's single "Technology" became a major hit and was mainly responsible for the electro revival of the mid-90s. Before the release of Aux 88's second album "Is It Man Or Machine", Tucker chose to leave the group to found his own label Puzzlebox - together with Anthony "Shake" Shakir - and record as a solo artist under his various guises. Aux 88 was continued by Hamilton alone, supplemented by long term Aux 88 collaborator Willam "BJ" Smith (a.k.a. Posatronix) and DJ Di'jital, who replaced Tucker as the group's tour DJ. Another successful album followed - the sped-up "Xeo-Genetic" from 1998 - before the demise of record company Direct Beat left Aux 88 without a label. All work under the Aux 88 name was suspended for a prolonged period of time, before original members Hamilton and Tucker officially reformed the group in 2005, much to the delight of a still avid fan-base.
