Carvevalesque rhythms, densely layered soundscapes and psychedelic pop harmonics are the current trademarks of Animal Collective, a band that has continuously reinvented itself over the past eight years and just as many albums. While strictly speaking not an electronic music project, the Baltimore based collective has never shied away from rubbing shoulders with the electronic music scene, recording for the FatCat label and working with New York's electronica outfit Carpark, which has dedicated an entire sub-label for the group's output: Paw Tracks. Animal Collective's 2009 album '
Merriweather Post Pavilion' sees the group once again take their sound into more a electronic direction, crossing the hypnotic repetitiveness of techno music with over-the-top psychedelic post-rock.
