Jörn Elling Wuttke and Roman Flügel were early involved in the development of techno in their home town Frankfurt. In 1993 the two initiated the label empire around Ongaku, Klang Elektronik and Playhouse together with Heiko Schäfer and Ata. During those times of hardcore they also released some of the first wholehearted techno house tracks in Germany under the name Acid Jesus. Their first release as Alter Ego came out on Sven Väth's label Harthouse making them instant stars in the scene while also releasing not so much rave-like music as Sensorama on the label Ladomat. Their albums and 12"s were seen as innovative milestones in positioning of genres within electronic music always questioning the borders between house and techno. That was until 2004 and their release of the Alter Ego album 'Transphormer' and its über-successful single 'Rocker' moved them into the leading position of the new interpreted under-genre of rock-influenced electro now marking a new step in their career. 2007 then, electro and minimal already fading out, saw the release of the album 'Why Not?!' doing their best to prove in which direction dance music goes: rave-compatible techno.
