When we interviewed Tony Williams for our Bristol City Focus early last year, little did we know just how influential his perspective on bass music would become over the next 12 months. Not because of his prolific and acclaimed productions of 'serious' dubstep under his Headhunter alias, but for what seemed like his novelty side project at the time: Addison Groove.

Williams had just released one single under the new name: 'Footcrab', which fused the high speed breaks of Chicago's footwork style with UK bass music and which quickly became a worldwide attention grabber.

Now little more than a year later this approach has blossomed into a sub-genre of its own with the productions of Machinedrum, Kuedo, Ital Tek, and Om Unit all exploring similar avenues. Just in time we're treated to Addison Groove's full-length album debut, fittingly released on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons imprint.

On 'Transistor Rhythm' Williams brings back his trademark bitingly stripped and juke-inspired 808 ghetto infusions such as 'Bad Things' (feat. Spank Rock), 'Rudeboy', and 'Dance of the Women' (feat. Mark Prichard). His love for old-school drum machines (hinted at in the album's artwork) programmed in a cutting edge manner lies at the heart of this album, but clever jazz, dub, and electro references are bound to hold the attention of the more melodically inclined.
