With a recording history spanning over two decades Gerald Simpson, better known as A Guy Called Gerald, has to be regarded as one of the great innovators in European electronic music. A founding member of Manchester's 808 State, Simpson was chiefly responsible for many of the groups early hit releases, including the chart-breaking 'Pacific'. Leaving the group to focus on his solo productions, his first single 'Voodoo Ray' became one of the first European acid house anthems in 1988, rising to number 12 of the UK charts. In the early 1990s A Guy Called Gerald turned his attention to jungle, quickly becoming one of the major innovators of drum'n bass music. After moving first to Tokyo and finally to Berlin during the early 2000s, Simpson once again turned to his techno roots, producing highly acclaimed releases for the Laboratory Instinct label.

Where 2007's 'Proto Acid' had A Guy Called Gerald revisit his techno roots with digital technology, 'Tronic Jazz' injects the soul back into his sound, harking back to the sound of Detroit and 808 State. Essential album!
